Lou Carpenter

Lou Carpenter (played by Tom Oliver)

Lou runs the general store with Harold Bishop. He lives at number 24 with Harold and Sky. Lou is father to Lauren, Guy and Ling Mai he also raised Louise "lolly" Carpenter, thinking that she was his biological daughter. It turned out that his deceased partner Cheryl Stark had had an affair. He lost custody of Lolly to the biological father. His godson is Ben Kirk.

Since arriving in Ramsay street Lou has always been known as a wheeler dealer with a big heart. He fell in love with his childhood sweetheart Madge Mitchell, only Madge was swept off her feet by another old flame, Harold Bishop. Lou then fell in love with Cheryl Stark and took her three kids on as his own (Darren, Brett and Danni). They were blissfully happy even though they argued a lot and got through everything that life threw at them even Cheryl being kidnapped but nothing made him happier than finding out he was to be a dad again and when little Louise was born she was the apple of his eye.

After many years it seemed in 2003 that Lou had at last found love again when he fell for Nina Tuckers mother, Trixie. They married very quickly, although this turned out to be the messiest chapter in his life yet, as she had a dream to star in a stage show called "Hello Dolly" and she wanted Lou to be executive producer and invest a lot of money. Of course Lou did this but ended up going bankrupt when the show flopped, Trixie soon departed, leaving him with nothing, and having to turn to local gangster Rocco Camentini to try and pay his debts. Rocco got him involved in illegal dealings that landed him in Prison..

In 2004 his beloved bar that he co-owned with Max Hoyland burned to the ground. He went on to set up "The General Store" that he now co owns with Harold. Index > Character Profiles > Lou Carpenter
