Max Hoyland

Max Hoyland (played by Stephen Lovett)
Max co owns Scarlet bar with Izzy. He lives at number 32 with his wife and 2 children. He is married to Steph and is father to Boyd and summer; Steph is heavily pregnant with his third child. He is the son of Bobby and Rosie Hoyland and has a sister Isabelle.
When Max first moved to Ramsay Street it was to be with his 2 children who had been living with his mother ever since his first wife Anna Claire had died of long QT syndrome he couldn’t handle his grief as well as being a single dad to 2 young kids so took a job working on the oil rigs. He had plenty of conflict with his mom though as he resented her for putting him and Izzy second to god.
When he settled in he brought a share in Lous place and fell for local girl Steph who was a good deal younger than him, although he was never sure if his feelings were reciprocated. When he discovered that she was suffering from cancer he was a tower of strength to her and they finally got together and married.
They were not to be left in peace for too long though as his old friend Gus turned up out of the blue and un be known to Max was stalking his family, as he was mentally un stable.
The couple made the decision to try for a baby but when they had no success and had tests he found out that he had fertility problems and Steph may have problems conceiving due to her cancer treatment so they decided to adopt and were over the moon when they were accepted and given a baby to care for only his son Boyd decided he had feelings for the babies mom and wanted to play daddy to the baby. So their hopes for a baby were once again ruined.
A few months later they had a scare when Steph started to feel ill and they feared that her cancer had returned but luckily she was ok the illness was down to the fact that she was actually pregnant.
They have had a fairly straight forward pregnancy ever since and Max was over joyed to discover to discover that he was about to have another son – until Steph started having dreams about her ex crush and panicked that there was something wrong so she decided to get herself checked out and found she had another lump in her breast and that the cancer had returned with a vengeance but she was refusing treatment for it with the fear that it would damage her unborn child.
Max went to desperate lengths to try to force Steph to have the treatment he couldn’t face loosing another wife – he went as far as having Steph committed to an institute and her sanity questioned but when she was released and found to be of sane mind she ended their relationship. After much convincing she realised that she couldn’t live without him and took him back but now he has been called out of the country to visit a sick Summer and with Steph getting more sick by the day and still refusing treatment will he ever see his wife alive again?
